Theresa was the daughter of Irvin A. Prushan (né Isaac Pinshanksi or Prushanski), a pharmacist, and Regina Prushan. The family immigrated to the US on November 13, 1923. Theresa was a 1938 graduate of the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons in Los Angeles. She was a practicing physician for 40 years in the Los Angeles area, serving in Public Health, Planned Parenthood and as a volunteer at Gateways Mental Health Facility.
