Captain Ralph W. Todd Jr. was killed September 4, 1951 in the crash of a B-29 bomber at Mountain Home Air Base on a training flight. Born January 13, 1923, he was the son of Ralph W. Todd Sr. of Fort Bragg and Mrs. Gladys Robinson of San Francisco. He was a decorated veteran and had served for 16 months overseas with the USAAF in World War II. His wife, Corrine M. (Nella) Todd and a son, Mark Russell Todd of Fort Bragg, survived. Services were on the 10th led by Rev. J.L. Kent.

The crew was completing a local training flight at Mountain Home Airport, consisting of touch and goes. After takeoff, while in initial climb, the four engine bomber went out of control and crashed in a huge explosion about 1,300 feet past the runway end. The aircraft exploded on impact and disintegrated, killing all seven crew members.
