Daughter of John Simmons & Susanna Hayne. First wife of William Manigault Heyward.

"Several years after [the death of William Manigault Heyward] at age 31, Susan married Col. Matthew Irvine Keith. They had no children and after Col. Keith's death in 1857, she lived with her daughter Maria, who had married James Barnwell Heyward. She is buried in the Irvine Keith Heyward plot in Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, SC.

"Susan Hayne Simmons was a daughter of John Simmons of Charleston and Prince William Parish and Susanna Hayne, daughter of William Hayne and Susan Bulline, daughter of Thomas Bulline of Woodstock Plantation in Goose Creek Parish and Susanna Stone, daughter of John Stone. Thomas Bulline was a son of Thomas Bulline, believed to have been from Rhode Island, a son of John Bulline. (The name has been spelled Bullein, Bullen and Boleyn as well as Bulline in the records.) John Simmons was a son of Dr. William Simmons of "The Hall" plantation in Prince William Parish and his wife Sarah Chardon, daughter of Col. Isaac Chardon and Mary Woodward, daughter of Richard Woodward and Sarah Stanyarne daughter of James Stanyarne and Rachel Fitch, daughter of Jonathan Fitch. James Stanyarne was a son of Thomas Stanyarne who came to South Carolina about 1675. Richard Woodward was a son of Dr. Henry Woodward, the first permanent English setter in South Carolina and his wife Mary Godfrey, daughter of Col. John Godfrey, one of the Deputies of the Lord Proprietors of South Carolina, and his wife Mary. Dr. William Simmons was a son of John Simmons, Jr. of Prince George Parish, Dorchester and Rebecca Stiles. John Simmons, Jr. was a son of John Simmons and his wife Anne who came to South Carolina about 1704 from New England and may have been members of a group who came from Dorchester, Massachusetts, and established a village near Fort Dorchester, South Carolina, the ruins of which are located about six miles southwest of the present day town of Summerville. William Hayne, the father of Susanna Hayne, wife of John Simmons, was a son of John Hayne and May Edings, daughter of William Edings and his wife Mary. John Hayne was a son of John Hayne, who came to South Carolina in 1700 from Schropshire, England, and his wife Mary Dean."
