FORMER COUNCILMAN J.C. ZEIGLER DEAD
Prominent Drayman for 36 Years Passes Away
James C. Zeigler, one of Carlisle's best-known citizens, and for 36 years extensively engaged in the draying business, died at his home on Arch Street, from paralysis, Tuesday evening at 4:55 o'clock, aged 63 years. Mr. Zeigler sustained several strokes, the last on Friday of last week.
Mr. Zeigler is survived by his wife and the following children: Hugh, Carlisle; J. Leon, of Carlisle; Thomas and Viola at home; Mrs. Ralph Brymesser, Harrisburg, and Mrs. W.I. Mathis, Collingswood, N.J. He is also survived by five grandchildren; a brother, W.E. Zeigler, Carlisle R.D. 1, and three sisters, Mrs. H.J. Wetzel, Boiling Springs, R.D. 1; Mrs. Robert Miller, North Bedford Street, Carlisle, and Mrs. J.W. Albright, Newton, Pa.
Mr. Zeigler was for several years a member of town council, and was a member of the old Co. G, 8th Regiment, N.G.P., and was with the company on strike duty, at Homestead. He was also a member of St. John's Lodge of Masons, the Odd Fellows, the Owls, the Knights of the Golden Eagles, and the Modern Woodmen. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at eleven o'clock, at his late home; burial in the Old Graveyard.
Mr. Zeigler was a devoted husband and father and by his genial disposition made many friends who will learn of his death with deep regret. Though not a native of the town, he was loyal to it, and was always willing to share in any work for the betterment of Carlisle. By dint of hard work and close applications he, with the assistance of his sons, built up an extensive draying business, which brought him into close contact with the majority of our merchants and manufacturers, all of whom held him in high regard.
