The birthdate on Mary's grave gives the year 1861 but according to the 1860 and the 1900 census, Margaret was born in 1858. Her father is said to be full blood Cherokee. My research leads me to believe that John Effort/Effert, b. 1817 in Georgia, d. 1890 Indian Territory is her father. Her mother Rebecca is also said to be full Cherokee Indian.
Mary is always listed in the U.S. Census' with the last name of Bell but she gave the last name of Effort when she married George Baker in Hempstead, Arkansas
