Preceded in death by husband John, parents, her brother Marvin, her sisters, Zelona Giauque and Lillie Belle Petersen, her grandchildren, Karlee Merrill and Clayton Dyer, and her great-grandchildren, Courtney Young and Nathan Oliver. Lenna Petersen Merrill was born April 22, 1915 in Ferron, UT and died May 17, 2004 in Mesa, AZ. She married her one and only true love, John Arthur Merrill in the Mesa LDS Temple on February 16, 1945. She attended Brigham Young University and the LDS Business College. She worked during World War II at Williams Air Force Base and, after her marriage, briefly in other capacities as a librarian, secretary and piano instructor. Her real career, and her job in life, was the raising of her eight children. She had a deep and abiding love for, and testimony of, her Savior and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she served in numerous capacities, including a mission with her husband to Dearborn, MI. She was anxious, and is now happy, to be reunited with her eternal companion, John, and with her parents, her brother Marvin, her sisters Zelona Giauque and Lillie Belle Petersen, her grandchildren, Karlee Merrill and Clayton Dyer; and her great-children Courtney Young and Nathan Oliver, all of whom have preceded her in death. She is the beloved mother and mother-in-law to Ellen and Jim Gardner of Mesa; Janice and David Allred of Orem, UT; Margaret and Paul Toscano of Salt Lake City, UT; John and Doris Merrill of Gilbert; Susan and John Dyer of Mesa; Ron and Karen Merrill of Littleton, CO; Tom and Janene Merrill of Mesa; and David and Jeri Merrill of Mesa. She is the grandmother to 56 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Warren Petersen of Mesa, Phillip Petersen of Mesa, Alice Gunnell currently serving as Temple Matron in Ghana, Africa, David Petersen of Missouri, Nolan Petersen of Washington, and Stephen Petersen of Mesa. Her loving, guileless and gentle heart will be sorely missed, but held in fond memory by all who knew her. A visistation will be held on Friday, May 21, 2004 from 6-8:00 PM at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald St. in Mesa. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 11:00 AM at LDS 8th Ward Chapel, 1054 W. 2nd Pl. in Mesa. Interment will be at the City of Mesa Cemetery.
