Dr. Charles H. Farrar, Galesburg Chapel 77, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 11:30 am Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in Proctor Hospital Peoria, Ill.
He was born November 14, 1934 in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of John P. and Fairy Forsyth Farrar. He married Lee Ann Orendorff on February 1, 1958 in Rockford, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving is his brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Farrar in Streator, Ill.; a daughter, Courtney (John David) Young of Scales Mound, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Christopher.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 through 1960 as a radio operator.
He was a psychologist, first working at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital, then as director of the Chemical Dependency Unit at Cottage Hospital before going into private practice.
He received his Bachelors degree from Rockford College, his Masters degree from Bradley University and his Ph. D from the University of Toledo.
Charles was a leader for the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was active with Rotary International serving as District Governor in 2002/2003. He also served at times as president, as secretary and in other roles with the Galesburg Noon Rotary. He was also involved with the Rotary Leadership Institute. He was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Soangetaha Country Club and the American Psychological Association.
Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Michel Clark will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rotary Park, RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) thru the Galesburg Community Foundation or to FISH of Galesburg or Charity of the donors choice.
