Ray Miller, 79, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Princeton Community Hospital from lung diseases. Born Oct. 5, 1922, at Red Jacket, he was the son of the late Spurgeon Talva and Pricie Estep Miller Sr. Mr. Miller was a retired UMWA member and worked mainly for Island Creek Coal at Coal Mountain for 40 years, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed gardening and cooking and loved his family and friends dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Freda Stokes Miller; brothers, Brooks, Eltis "Buck," Elliott "Speck," Kara, Raymond, Spurgeon Junior, Billy and Rush "Dock" Miller; and a sister, Fallie Dekins. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church, Coal Mountain, with the Revs. Glenn Hatfield and Arble Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Hatfield Cemetery, Coal Mountain. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Mounts Funeral Home, Gilbert, and prior to service Saturday at the Church.
