Immigrated to New Jersey, United States in 1750 from the Isle of Man, and by 1760 had moved to Hartford County, Maryland. He bought a farm on the headwaters of Little Gunpowder Falls just south of Black Horse named "Poteet's Pleasure and added to it over the years. His occupation was a Methodist-Episcopalian circuit rider and preacher in Gerard, PA. Married Huldah "Holiday" Smith, they had five children, John, 1761, James, date unknown, Mary, 1765, Thomas, 1768 & Solomon, Jr, 1771, before she died in 1773, Married April 5, 1780 to Althea Foster in Harford County, Maryland. Their children by 1787 were Samuel, 1785, Huldah (Holliday), 1780 -named after his first wife, Margaret, 1782, and Martha, 1787. He died at age 74. The cause of his death was a fall from a horse.
