Irma Thompson Stephens passed away on October 16, 2008 at the age of 97.

She was born April 22, 1911 in Eden, Utah, the fifth of six children and the youngest daughter of James Alexander Thompson and Annie Sorensen Thompson. On June 3, 1932, she and John Nephi Stephens were married in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They were married for 74 years prior to John's death. Irma went to the LDS Business College and served as the first bookkeeper when John began to subcontract floor covering jobs. Irma served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in teaching positions in both the Young Women's and Relief Society organizations and as a Relief Society president. Irma and John served a church mission together in the Fiji Island mission. Irma was known for her homemaking skills and over the years many quilters learned their skills in her home. She was an also an excellent cook and taught many of her granddaughters to cook, bake bread and make mustard pickles.

Irma had three brothers, Dwight James, Theo Leon and Stanton Sorensen, and two sisters, Loa and Lydia Louise. All of her siblings preceded her in death. Irma and John had four sons, Boyd, Larry, Robert and Garth. Boyd preceded his parents in death. She is survived by three sons, and a large number of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Irma will be held at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Visitors are welcome at the Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m.
