Cartoonist. Gilbert Fox's long and prolific career began in the 1930s. During the golden age of comics he illustrated "Plastic Man" for Quality Comics. His work as an animator included such well known cartoons as "Betty Boop." During World War II, he worked on "Bernie Blood" and "Dogface" for Stars and Stripes. His widely syndicated panel "Side Glances" ran in newspapers for 25 years. He worked on the "Muppet Babies" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." He continued to work with passion in advertising, comic strip art and political cartooning. Most recently, he was the political cartoonist for the Fairfield Citizen. He was a mentor to many cartoonists who were deeply touched by his love of the business and his zest for life. During his lifetime, Mr. Fox received many awards, as well as two Pulitzer Prize nominations. Most recently he won the New England Newspaper 2003 award for a political cartoon in the Fairfield Citizen.
