Gates, Nicholas John "Nick", age 62, passed away April 2, 2012. He was born in Binghamton, New York. He graduated from Butler High School in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1971. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville and a 40 year employee of The Knoxville News Sentinel. He is survived by his wife, Peggy "Austin" Gates; daughter, Jennifer Nicole "Nikki" and husband, Michael Sparks; daughter, Lori and husband, Brent Dillahunty; grandchildren, Johannah, Kaki, Haven and Emmaline June Dillahunty; parents, Florence and Gerald Gates; sister, Anne Tuttle; nephew, Pierson Tuttle; several other family and friends. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church, Knoxville, on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 12:00-2:00 p.m., with a celebration of life service to follow at 2:00 p.m. He enjoyed his work; he cherished his family and friends and loved his God. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of research for Amyloidosis to The Human Immunology Cancer Program, 1924 Alcoa Hwy., Knoxville, TN 37920.
