Harry David English, age 89, of Burgaw, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

He was born June 24, 1917, in Duplin County , and was the son of the late Clyde and Lottie Parker English.
Harry was a Civilian Conservation Corps veteran, serving the rank of Leader from 1937 to 1939. During WW II he worked at Camp Davis and was also employed at the Wilmington Shipyard. He retired in 1982, from the NC Department of Transportation after 36 years of service.

Harry was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy and brother. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 64 years, Evelyn Welch English of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda E. and Thomas Kelly of Burgaw, Evelyn E. and Edwin S. Lorek of Castle Hayne, and Angela E. and Michael Jefferson of New Bern; grandchildren, David Kelly and wife, Melissa, of Burgaw, Janet Kelly-Scholle and husband, Frank, of Apex, James Lorek and wife, Sharon, of Lincoln Park, NJ, Mark Lorek and wife, Laura, of New Bern, David Jefferson and Jonathan Jefferson, both of New Bern; and brother, James English of Irmo, SC.

A celebration of Harry English's Life was held Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Mr. Neal Newton officiating.

Burial followed in Riverview Memorial Park .
The family received friends Tuesday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the funeral service.
