Alexander Family Holds Open House At Wesley
Mr. and Mrs. Morton F. Alexander, 1904 S. 13th Pl., are observing their golden wedding anniversary Wednesday, April 24. Celebration of the anniversary will be held Sunday, April 21, with open house in the lounge of Wesley Methodist Church, the hours 3 to 6 p.m. The family dinner will be at the Verne Tooke residence, 202 West Ave. N.
Children of the couple are Gilbert, Sparta; Stanley and Mrs. Verne (Betha) Tooke, La Crosse; Mrs. Irvin (Kathryn) Schaldach, Phoenix, Ariz. They have 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Alexander was born June 25, 1885, on a farm in Vernon County. Mrs. Alexander, the former Goldie Deaver, also is a native of a Vernon County farm, where she was born Dec. 14, 1888.
They were married at the Viroqua Methodist parsonage by the Rev. George Nuzum. Ruth Alexander and Gilbert Deaver, sister and brother, attending. The bridesmaid is now Mrs. Rue Ennis, Bellingham, Wash. Mr. Deaver is deceased.
The couple resided in Viroqua, where Mr. Alexander learned the trade of buttermaker. Later the family moved to Rockland, where Mr. Alexander was a buttermaker, and then to Sparta, where he worked in the creamery. They came to La Crosse in 1922 and have resided here ever since. Mr. Alexander worked at the Trans Company for many years, retiring 10 years ago.
Mrs. Alexander in the daughter of the late Thomas and Harriet Deaver. Of their 10 children only three are living, the others, John, Viroqua, and Mrs. Harold (Marie) Welch, Dorchester, Wis., Mr. Alexander’s parents were Forest and Mary Alexander. His sisters and brothers are Mrs. Grace Bertram, Lakeside, Wash.; Mrs. Rue Ennis, Bellingham; Mrs. Walter (Amy) Hale, Seattle; Mrs. Riley (Mary) Lambert and Charles Alexander, Waukesha; Fred Alexander, Sparta.
