Private/Corporal/Sergeant, Companies B & A, 7th Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted in Huntingdon, TN on 8/15/1862 and mustered in Benton Co, TN on 8/17/1862 furnishing his own horse and equipment and receiving a $100 bounty for enlistment. Captured and paroled with the regiment at the battle of Trenton, TN on 12/20/1862. Hospitalized with chronic diarrhea on 6/4/1865, he was discharged from the Jeffersonville, IN military hospital on disability. He received an invalid pension in 1870. He was the brother of James M Spellings of Companies B & A. His widow, Elizabeth F Hamilton, applied for a widow’s pension in October 1905.
