Bernice was married twice, 1st to John B Schmidtmann. Then to Conrad Althen March 15, 1944, in Chicago. Per her father's obituary in June 1943, she was Mrs. Bernice Schmidtmann.

Mrs. Bernice M. Althen, 68, of 1524 Jasmine Dr., Manitowoc, died Monday evening in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Mr. Frank L. Kroll will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mrs. Althen, nee Bernice Peterson, was born Sept. 10, 1908, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Peter A. and Anna Halleran Peterson. She grew up and was educated in Manitowoc. In 1945 she was married to Conrad E. Althen. He preceded her in death September 1970.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Judith Schmidtmann of Kenosha; two brothers, Norman J. of Dallas, Tex., and George R. of San Antonio, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. William E. (Lillian) Gerl of Manitowoc; three grandchildren, Jill, Peter and Andrew, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Friends may call in Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, State Street Chapel, after 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday until the service.
