Professional Hockey Player. A native of Calgary, Alberta, 'Herbie' played for teams in the CHL, NHL, AHA, AHL, CCJHL, and the IAHL hockey leagues. Lewis played for Calgary Hustlers from 1921 to 1922, Calgary Canadiens from 1922 to 1924, the Duluth Hornets from 1925 to 1928, Detroit Cougars from 1928 to 1930, Detroit Falcons from 1930 to 1932, Detroit Red Wings from 1932 to 1938, and the Indianapolis Capitals from 1939 to 1941. Lewis was also Head Coach of the Indianapolis Capitals from 1939 to 1943. After retiring from hockey he became a successful oil man in Pompano Beach, Florida, but later in life, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, for his health. He passed away there in January 1991 at the age of 84. Lewis was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player in 1989.
