Alice Joynt Ludwig, 91, of Algona passed away Monday, April 2, at the Algona Manor. Alice was born January 14, 1921, at Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Thomas and Mary (McNally) Joynt. She was schooled at St. Ellen's Grade School in Emmetsburg and graduated from Emmetsburg Public High School. On September 2, 1941, Alice was married to Vernell "Bud" Ludwig at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. The couple made their home in Algona. Alice and Bud were always engaged in their church, extended family and the community. Alice enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, fishing, knitting and crafts, and baking. She was an active member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Alice worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator and later she worked seasonally in production and research for Pioneer Hi-Bred International. She was also a member of the Algona Senior Citizens, serving on the board, did training for seniors on avoiding financial fraud and served as an election judge.

Survivors include her children, Dea and husband Jim Thilges of Clear Lake, Iowa; Vern Ludwig and wife Susan of Watertown, Massachusetts and Steve Ludwig and wife Barbara of St. Cloud, Minnesota as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Rita Joynt of Mason City, Iowa; Alice Ludwig of Bloomington, Minnesota and Agatha Ludwig of Algona, Iowa. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud in 2003, brothers and sister; Francis, Sr. Mary Patrice, Ralph, Edwin, Irvin, Vincent, Paul and Eugene Joynt.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Mayo Clinic, Kossuth County Medical Center and the Algona Manor for the attentive care Alice received.
