On 12 Jul 1861 Moses, a farmer, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Sterling, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 19 years, 7 months and 28 days old.
On 21 Oct 1861 he was taken prisoner at The Battle of Ball's Bluff, Leesburg, Virginia.
On 10 Dec 1863 Moses was promoted to Corporal, and on 11 Jul 1864 he mustered out of service with the 15th Massachusetts having fulfilled his term of service.
On 1 May 1867 Moses, 25, married Lucy Jane Lockwood, 25, daughter of Harvey H. and Lucy Ann (Richards) Lockwood. The marriage remained childless.
The lived in Worcester, and on 18 Sep 1883, Moses was nominated as a Director for three years of the Cooperative Loan Association, according to the "Worcester Daily Spy."
Moses died on 4 Apr 1914 at Woodstock, Windsor County, Vermont. He was 72 years, 4 months and 21 days old.
