Rita Labreche Sonski of Somers died Saturday at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. She was 84.

She was born in Stafford and was a resident of Somers most of her life.

She operated a farm with her late husband and formerly was employed by Milton-Bradley (now Hasbro). She was a member of All Saints Church, a Third Order of Carmelite, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1405.

She is survived by her son, Peter A. Sonski Jr. of the Higganum section of Haddam; a daughter, Barbara Damon of Somers; three brothers, William Labreche of Stafford Springs, Roland Labrech of Shrewsbury, Mass., and the Rev. Laurier Labreche of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Jeannine Brisar of Enfield and Jacqueline Pero of Albuquerque; and 10 grandchildren. Her husband, Peter A. Sonski, died previously.

Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, and a Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, 25 School St., Somersville. Burial will be in Somers Center Cemetery.

Rita was born May 8, 1923 in Stafford and was a resident of Somers most of her life. She operated a farm with her late husband and formerly was employed by Milton-Bradley (now Hasbro). Rita was a communicant of All Saints Church, a Third Order of Carmelite, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1405. Rita was devoted to her family and loved caring for others. She is survived by her son, Peter A Sonski Jr. and his wife Teressa of Higganum, a daughter, Barbara Damon and her husband Mark of Somers, ten grandchildren, Timothy, Rachel, Elise, John, Brianna, David, Regina, Michael, Kateri and Kolbe; three brothers, William Labreche and his wife Irma of Stafford Springs, Roland Labreche and his wife Frances of Shrewsbury, MA, and Fr. Laurier Labreche of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Jeannine Brisard of Enfield and Jacqueline Pero of Albuquerque, NM; three brothers-in-law Alex Sonski and his wife Susan of Somersville, Albin Sonski and his wife Ann of Bakersfield, VT, and Frank Legienza of Enfield; two sisters-in-law Anne Labreche of Naples, FL, and Margaret Sonski of Somers; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Lionel Labreche; and three brothers-in-law Richard Brisard, Harold Pero, and Longin Sonski; and sister-in-law Anna Legienza. Family and friends will gather Wednesday May 7, 2008 by 9:00 am at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street for a funeral procession to All Saints Church, Somersville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Somers Center Cemetery.
