Lancelot enlisted as a Private serving the Union Army on 26 Sep 1861. He enlisted in Company E, Vermont 1st Cavalry Regiment on 19 Nov 1861. He was promoted to Full Private on 21 Jul 1864 and mustered out of service on 9 Aug 1865.
