  • Death 1868 Greenville County, South Carolina, USA
  • Burial Greer, Greenville County, South Carolina, USA

Thomas Carter(Tench) Henson was the oldest child of Aaron and Jane Lister Henson. He was probably named after his uncle, Thomas Carter(Tench) Lister, Jane Lister Henson's Brother. He was born in 1843 probably in the Gowesnville Baptist Church community. He died around 1868 and no grave marker has been located for him. He was a member of Company "M" of the Confederate Palmetto Sharpshooters of South Carolina during the Civil War. He enlisted in Columbia, South Carolina on 1 July 1862 and was last on roll July/August 1864. He was transferred to Company "I", lst South Carolina Artillery and was captured "In the Field" and last on roll, November/December 1864. Remarks: Transferred from Compamy "I", Palmetto Battalion Light Artillery 16 June 1864. As far as I know, he never married or had any children and does not appear in the 1870 Federal Census for Greenville County, South Carolina. I'm sure he was left with both mental and physical scars from his gallant service for the "Lost Cause"!
