Catharine was the daughter of Herman HANCHETT and Mary Elizabeth MASON. She married Charles NIXON on August 19, 1832, in Medina Co., Ohio (Medina Co. Probate Court, Vol. A p 92, married by John Wilson, JOP). The marriage produced three children: Charles H. (1834-1844), Luther Calvin (1837-1898), and Maretta Elizabeth (1840-1907). The marriage ended in divorce in 1863, sometime after Charles had left for California and the gold rush.
