Notes: This aircraft with Command Pilot Capt. Walter Beckett aboard was leading the 453rd Bomb Group & 2nd Combat Wing when at 0927 it collided head-on with an unidentified B-24 of another group. Both aircraft went down. Three chutes observed. Capt. Beckett, Lt. Kosky, and FO Saugen were survivors from 42-51144.
Five 389th BG aircraft are lost on a mission to Halle, Germany.
