Mathias Shepler 60
Mathias was a Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 18th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1837 to 1839. A native of Pennsylvania, he served in the War of 1812. He continued his profession as a farmer after moving to Ohio, and also became a justice of the peace. He entered politics and became a member of the Ohio State Legislature and the Ohio State Senate. He was elected to Congress in 1836, served one term, and declined to become a candidate in 1838.

Herman Van Dorsten and Julia Ann Sheplar married on Aug 25, 1853 in Stark Co, Ohio.

The 1860 census revealed they had a two year old daughter. Also living with them were an eight year old boy named S E Brown, two adult males Wm Reed and Pius Shifler.

Ella J Vandorsen (b.1864)

Julia died in 1864 due to childbirth complications.
