Robert G. LeTourneau was the preeminent authority in the design and manufacturing of heavy earthmoving machinery around the world, and held over 300 patents, including many for the electric wheel hub drive systems so predominant in most of the largest wheeled earthmoving vehicles in use today.
R. G. LeTourneau was a devout Christian and philanthropist who shared his talents with people around the world. Originally connected with the Plymouth Brethren, the LeTourneau's joined the Christian and Missionary Alliance while in Stockton, California. They helped found the Pinewood Alliance Church when they came to Longview, Texas in the 1940s.
Robert and his wife, Evelyn Peterson LeTourneau, are interred on the campus of LeTourneau University, Longview, Texas.
