OBITUARY
Elmer Coulter NEW BOSTON, Ill.
Elmer M. Coulter, 79, of New Boston, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Unity Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Family Funeral Services in New Boston. Burial will be at the New Boston Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 48 of New Boston. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Boston Volunteer Ambulance.
Mr. Coulter was born June 11, 1921, in Mercer County, the son of Ernest Starr and Mina (Smith) Coulter. He married Rosella Diehl on Dec. 3, 1945, in Aledo. He worked for the Corp of Engineers for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He was assistant lock master at lock and dam 17 in New Boston. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48 in New Boston. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working on small engines, and foraging for mushrooms. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Rosey; a daughter, Lucinda Puckett and her husband, Jim, of New Boston; grandchildren, Christopher Coulter, Tonia Zimmerman, Mikki Coulter, Sarah Coulter; three great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Coulter of New Boston; a sister, Lela Terrill of Aledo; and two brothers, Lyle Coulter of New Boston and Leo Mead of New Boston. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Coulter and three brothers and a sister.
