WAUKON, Iowa -- Mark L. Odegard, 62, of Waukon, died suddenly Saturday, March 31, 2012, at his home.

Private family memorial services will be held at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon. Private family burial will be held in St. John's Wheatland Cemetery, rural New Albin.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1949, in Oakland Calif., son of the Rev. Lawrence and the Rev. Laura (Whittenberg) Odegard. He received a master's degree in Christian education from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in 1980.

Mark was director of medical records for several hospitals in California and New York City. He was a knowledgeable theologian and historian who had a unique take on the world.

Mark's mother and family will miss his passionate conversations and his kind and generous spirit.

Surviving are his mother, the Rev. Laura Odegard, of Waukon; his siblings, Kristina (Mark) Walleser, of Lansing, Rebecca (Douglas) Odegard-Siegele, of Greeley, Colo., Peter (Michelle) Odegard and Andrew (Catherine) Odegard, both of Dubuque, and Naomi (Gary) Yaddof, of McGregor; and 17 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence.
