Ellis -- William "Bill" Honas, 94, 2801 E. 27th, former Ellis resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1907, in Trego County to Joseph and Catherine (Flax) Honas.

He married Mary Weber on Oct. 23, 1928, in Ellis. She died July 18, 1945. He then married Helen Rupp in 1949.

He was a farmer near Ellis until 1955. He moved to Ellis where he sold real estate and insurance until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, AARP and Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, all of Ellis.

Survivors include his wife, Ellis; four sons, Alfred J., Hays, Henry, Copan, Okla., Adolph, Arvada, Colo., and William, Westminster, Colo.; two daughters, Dorothy Dechant and Tillie Leiker, both of Hays; a stepdaughter, Florie Seitzinger, Ellis; two sisters, Clara Novis, Pocatello, Idaho, and Bertha Flax, Ellis; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and eight sisters.

Services will at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, with Father Kevin Weber officiating; burial in the church cemetery in Ellis. The Fourth Degree Knights of Ellis will stand honor guard at 6 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. There will be a Hays Daughters of Isabella rosary at 6:30 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by an Ellis Knights of Columbus rosary today at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Masses.
