Rev. J.A. Hultman, baritone singer, known internationally as "The Sunshine Singer".
Born; July 6,1861 at Hjartlanda, Smaland, Sweden.
1869-immigrated to America with his family to Illinois then Freemont,Iowa where he worked as a sheperd. Hultman jokingly said "I was seven when we left Sweden and eight years when we arrived in the U.S.A.". JA Hultman loved music and worked to purchase a portable organ, which is now at North Park University, Brandel Library, Chicago, Illinois.
abt. 1875 -Studied at Chicago, Illinois
1877-began his preaching at the age of 16.
1884 In the summer he married Carolina (Karolina) Palmer
-Rev. Hultman and his wife Carolina moved to Omaha, Nebraska
They had 3 daughters and 1 son, all born at Omaha.
Julia Eugenia, Olivia Pauline, Paul, & Helen.
1885-Charter member of Evangelical Mission Covenant Church
1885 Published "Cymbalen", a selection of hymns.
1895-published jointly published "Jubelklangen" used by Covenant congregations
1896-1897- Served on North Park Colleges music staff.
1900 -Ordained a Minister
1900-1906—Pastor of Salem Square Church, Worcester, Massachusetts
1909-1913—Moved to Sweden and performed concerts.
1913,Dec.19th. Arrived from Liverpool on the ship Lusitania, Ellis Island, NY
1914 Returned to Worcester, then Rev. Hultman. and his son Paul opened the Hultman Conservatory of Music. Later they moved to Chicago, Illinois.
1919 Rev. J.A Hultman and his wife Carolina returned to Sweden, where Carolina died on Aug. 12, 1919 and is buried at the Pastor J.A. Hultman Family Plot at Lidingo, Sweden
1921-Returned from Gothenburg, Sweden on the ship S.S.Drottningholm to Ellis Island, NY-age 60 & single.

During his many travels and concerts, he met and married
his 2nd. Wife, Margaret Jansson in 1927

1942- Rev. Hultman died at age 81 on August 7, 1942, at Covenant Church, Burbank, California doing what he loved.
He will always be known as a preacher, a composer of more than 500 songs, a publisher of numerous hymnal collections, and being
"The Sunshine Singer."(Solskenssangren)

Burial: according to his granddaughter, Karin of Sweden….
"Margaret, his wife, bought a grave in Colma, California when J.A. died"
