Roger Jesse Hanson was born on the 30 of March 1916 to Jesse Spaulding Hanson and Zeta Lucretia Hubbard in Clear Lake Iowa. He was the third and last child born of this union. He had two older sisters Muriel and Marjorie. He also had 3 half siblings from his father’s first marriage to Hattie Bates Hubbard, who was also the mother of Zeta.
Roger lost his father Jesse in 1921 at the age of 5 and then a mere 4 years later lost his mother Zeta. Jesse’s unmarried sister Eleanor, who was a Social Worker, Activist in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania came and adopted the 3 minor children. She took them to Pittsburgh where she educated them through the University of Pittsburgh.
Roger had a wife "Effie" and they had 2 sons and a daughter.
