Mom was born on September 10, 1923 in the small town of Angermunde, which is about 40 or so miles northeast of Berlin. Her parents were Otto Duckert (born in 1885) and Frieda Schulze Duckert (Born in 1896) Mom spoke very little about her family in Germany and unfortunately my sisters and I only have a few facts.

Mom met my Dad in 1947 when he was stationed in Germany during his time in the Army. They were married on June 4, 1949 and came back to the States. They settled in NY (First Brooklyn and then Queens and finally Long Island) where they raised 3 daughters. Upon Dad's retirement in 1990, they moved to Washington State.

She and Dad used to do volunteer work at a hospital in Tacoma, WA - something they both really enjoyed! But, by 1994, Mom had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and lost her battle with it on April 19, 1995.

Mom loved to sew, knit, crochet and bake! Every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, she would bake hundreds of cookies. Many were given away as gifts, but there was always plenty left to eat!

**Special thanks to Kathy Stroope Veasey for creating Mom's memorial and to Rhonda C. Pointer/Gannon/Friends for sponsoring Mom's memorial.**
