(Hedwig Kaiser - died August 26, 1982)

Sister was born in Kcynia, Poland, August 25, 1890 and was first baptized the following day, August 26, 1890. After coming to America, she entered the Congregation is Des Plaines, Illinois, August 31, 1916. She entered the novitiate on August 14, 1917 and was admitted to the First Profession on July 29, 1919. After she pronounced her Final Vows on August 24, 1925, Sister was assigned to teach at Holy Family Academy in Chicago. During these years here, Sister took the necessary steps and studies to become a citizen of this country. She achieved this goal on December 16, 1931.

Many of the Sisters recall her firm but loving guidance during their formative years under her care as Sub-Mistress. She stressed obedience and respect for God and all authority; willingness to serve others and she instilled the spirit of dedication.

Sister was stationed in Texas since 1941. She worked at the various hospitals which included: Bethania Hospital - Wichita Falls; Nazareth Hospital Mineral Wells; Christ the King - Vernon, Texas and Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler, Texas. She assumed her assignments in these hospitals with loving care always being of service to others.

Sister suffered much from arthritis, especially in her knees. While at Mother Frances Hospital, the doctors advised surgery. Sister acquiesced but never regained her strength. She tried to walk with a walker, but never was successful. Confined to her wheelchair, Sister still did some Clerical Work at the hospital. Growing weaker, she was forced to retire in 1974.

While at the Vice-Provincialate, Sister did some chores from her wheel chair as: Wiping dishes, folding clothes in the laundry and dusting chairs and tables. She spent many hours throughout the day in the presence of the Lord. She was found after in the chapel praying for the needs of the Church and our Community.

Sister died peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 1982. Her face radiated the joy of being united with her Divine Spouse.

May Eternal Rest be hers!
