William J. Ehler, 86, died Saturday, February 12, 1983, at Good Samaritan Center in Fennimore, after an extended illness.

There will be no visitation or funeral services. The Thoni and Kendall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel, Wisconsin.

Willie Johannes Ehler was born March 25, 1896, in Hinrichsdorf, Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Nicolaus and Dorothea (Harmsen) Ehler. He came to the United States in 1912 to Jones County, Iowa. He later moved to Grant County, Wisconsin and farmed in the Marietta Township. He was also employed as a hospital aide in Madison, Wisconsin. He never married.

Surviving are one niece, Wilma (Loren) Bronemann of Monticello, IA; and two nephews, Freddie Luckstead of Wyoming and George Ehler of Anamosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Note: Willi Johannes Ehler was born in Hinrichsdorf, Fehmarn, Germany, an island off the northern coast of Schleswig-Holstein. He used the name William during his lifetime. William had one brother and four sisters who remained in Germany. William, his sister Minnie and brother, Nicolas Ehler, all came to the United States to Jones County, Iowa. William later moved to Grant County, Wisconsin. They were the nephews and niece of Ferdinand and Carl Harmsen of Durant, Iowa.
