- Good Conduct Medal with one Star;
- American Defense Service Medal;
- American Campaign Medal;
- Victory Medal;
- National Defense Service Medal;
- Korean Service Medal with two Stars;
- United Nations Medal with two Stars;
- Vietnam Campaign Medal; and
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three Stars.
He met Virginia Northern, a secretary in the Department of War, in Washington, DC and married her in 1947. They raised a son and a daughter.
He retired as a Master Gunnery Sargeant M Gy Sgt - E - 9, in December 1969, at Cherry Point, North Carolina.
After retiring from the military, Ivan worked for an auto parts retailer for a time and then as a service writer for a Chrysler repair shop in Gallatin, TN. He also worked for two years as a local Krispy Kreme store manager. His last job was as a county tax collector, where he worked for some ten years before retiring. He found a lot of satisfaction in this job for the friends he made and being able to help people solve their problems with the county revenue bureaucracy.
