Nellie Reed, Aerialist for the play Blue Beard which was playing at the Iroquois theater. The theater caught on fire and over 600 lives were lost mainly women and children. Nellie was to fly out over the audience showering pink carnations. When the fire started she was trapped above the stage waiting for her entrance. During the fire, she fell and was gravely injured and died of burns and internal injuries three days later. Out of three hundred actors, dancers and stagehands, only Nellie and four others died. This was one of the most tragic fires with loss of life in Chicago history.
