USNA Class of 1943, Lieutenant Commander Oxley was the pilot of a F2H-2 Banshee fighter with Fighter Squadron 172 aboard the carrier USS ESSEX (CV-9). On October 16, 1951, while on an armed reconnaissance flight, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire near Majon-ni, North Korea, crashed and exploded upon impact. His remains were not recovered.
