In San Francisco Hospital, one of music's most brilliant careers yesterday came to a final end for Hans Siegfried linne, 76. Once composer and conductor, noted abroad and in New York as well as San Francisco, he died after a week's illness, culminating several failing years.
COMPOSER OF OPERETTA. It was in the great days of the old Tivoll Theater that Hans Linne, Vienna born, made his first mark as a conductor in San Francisco. Friend of the great, and inti mate of Victor Herbert, later connected with the Messrs. Shubert in New York, it was Hans Linne who wrote "Die Schone nivalin," an operetta acclaimed abroad and as "Love Time" in America. Only a few years ago, the musician was in the news as director of the San Francisco Light Opera Company.
A silence followed, broken suddenly in 1934 with the story of treatment in Emergency Hospital of an old man, an SERA worker, who had fallen in crossing a street Hans Linne.
NURSED IN ILLNESS. A few months later he was married to 21 year old
Irma Madeline Lowell (1913-1952),
Oakland singer and dancer, who nursed him through illness, declared the wedding only "a musical companionship." Yesterday his young wife was still waiting for him at their home, 1254 Scott Street.
Besides his widow. Mr. Linne leave two sisters, Pauline and Alvina Malterer, and a brother, Max J. Loebl, all in Germany, and two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Melba Clark and Mrs. Elsa Clark
