Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. today at Smith-Perry Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. Hansel Thompson, 71, Gadsden, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in Gadsden Regional Medical Center. The Rev. Tommy Hutt will officiate. Burial will follow in Midway Cemetery. Smith-Perry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson was a native of St. Johns, Fla. He was the son of the late George Wesley and Kizzie Temple (Batton) Thompson.

He was retired from the Alabama School for the Deaf as a shop foreman. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Faye Davis Thompson.

Survivors include his son, Patrick (Mary) Still, Gadsden; daughters, Sarah (Leon) Frier, Gadsden, Dorothy Still (Alberto) Rivera, Boaz, and Sybelle Ortega (Justin) Holems, Gadsden; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The "Still" surname: Edna Faye Davis was married to Hansel Thompson and had children. Then she married Pat Still for a short time before remarrying for the second time to Hansel Thompson. During this process, Hansel's children were given their stepfather's surname.
