Sidney Porter Gray, Son Of Covered Wagon Pioneer Couple, Dies
"Graveside services will be held Tuesday (6 Jan 1953) at 3 p.m. for Sidney Porter Gray, member of a pioneer El Dorado County family, who died Sunday at a local hospital at the age of 81.
Gray was born in 1868 at Gray's Flat, one of 11 children born to Young Gray and Julia Porter Gray who came across the plains with a wagon train from Kentucky on their wedding trip in 1850.
Gray and his wife, Mrs. Annie Gray, have maintained their home at the site homesteaded by his father at Gray's flat, near Shingle Springs. He was a mill wright and a carpenter and has been retired about ten years.
In addition to Mrs. Gray, he is survived by a brother, Euell Y. Gray of Placerville and sisters, Mrs. Inez Harper of Ione and Mrs. Eva Kipp of Sacramento, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at El Dorado Cemetery with the Rev. John Dunlop officiating. Memory Chapel of Placerville is in charge of arrangements."
