William Oscar Bradley, son of Patrick. H. and Jane Hearst [Chiles] Bradley, was born in what became Bradley, South Carolina on the 28th day of September 1857. His father would become a Brig. General of the South Carolina Militia during the Civil War and President of the First President of the Augusta-Knoxville Railroad; which connected the small community to Greenwood and Augusta.

In 1879, William married Miss Laura Grier Moffatt, daughter of Thomas H. and Mary L. Moffatt of Chester, South Carolina. They had five children:
Henry Moffatt (1880-1960)
Thomas Chiles (1882-1960)
William Oscar (1887-1971)
John Norman (1889-1956)
Mary Shiland {m. Warthen}(1892-1987)

In 1893, William O. Bradley was appointed Chief of Division in the Comptroller's Office at the Treasury Department in Washington, District of Columbia, by President Grover Cleveland. Here in Washington, William and Mary Bradley would raise their five children.

William Oscar Bradley, Sr. departed this life on his 55th birthday, September 28th 1912. He was buried near his parents in front of Cedar Springs A.R.P. church.
