Mrs. Luethesia Ghan Merritt was born on a farm in Christian county near the Delaware bridge on December 11, 1883 and passed away at her home in Clever July 17, 1948. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Ghan. She was united in marriage to George Merritt and to this union were born six children. Her husband and two daughters preceded her in death. She was converted early in life and united with the Missionary Baptist Church at Mt. Sinai where she remained a faithful member. Surviving are two sons, Clarence and Lawrence of Clever; two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Eagan and Mrs. Ellen Keltner, both of San Jose, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Baker of Springfield, and Mrs. Willard Frazier of Clever; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Delaware Chapel by Rev. Lynn Swadley of Springfield. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Maples of Clever.
