John was somewhat of a vagabond. Soon after his third marriage he packed up his family to homestead in Elida, New Mexico. However, the attempt was fraudulent as the family actually resided in Roswell, New Mexico and sent the two youngest children out every week to check on the homestead. They eventually gave up on the homestead idea and moved to Canada along with his wife's family. They lived in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan until old age when they joined their son Lee in Chowchilla, California.
John Smith Webb spent his last days institutionalized for senile dementia. It is suspected that the ultimate cause for his death was abuse by the institution.∼Service Monday for John Webb
