Revolutionary War Private (1776-79). Samuel Haycraft was a soldier for 2 years and 6 months in 13th Virginia and one year with Thomas Morris' Light Infantry. Enlisted from Hardin County, Kentucky and was granted pension June 20, 1820.
Employed young Thomas Lincoln (later father of Abraham Lincoln) as a carpenter to help build a mill. Sam Haycraft also served, at various times, as county sheriff, judge, and state legislator.

Married Margaret Van Metre on Sept 9, 1778 at Bark Fork, Pennsylvania.

Another child was Amelia (1788-1866) who married Jonathan Shepard (1786-1829).
