Edward Sholin was born in the town of Norrala in Alfta parish, Gävleborgs län, Sweden. He left Sweden with his parents and brother, Karl (Charles), on Oct. 28, 1884, coming to New York on the ship, "Servia."
He and his brother, Andrew Sholin, signed up in 1912 to work at a shepp ranch in the Aleution Islands, Alaska. After that, they lived for some years in Homer, Alaksa, where they worked their silver fox farm. He married Mollie Robertson about 1927, and together they ran her small business,the Southern Hotel, in Grants Pass.
She had two sons from her first marriage to John Franklin Goswick, but she and Peter had no children of their own.
