BEN WEED, RETIRED J.C. PROFESSOR DIES AFTER OPERATION
Body to be brought to Kentfield Campus for last rites tomorrow.

Ben Weed, member of the faculty of Marin Junior College for many years and one of the best beloved instructors at the institution, died last night in a San Francisco hospital following an operation. He retired for the college faculty two years ago after 12 years of service as head of the English department and with his wife took up residence in Sausalito.

A native of San Francisco, aged 72 years, Benjamin Weed was on of California's outstanding educators and contributed much to making the junior college at Kentfield the outstanding institution that it is today. He struggled with A. C. Olney and others of the pioneer staff to build the college to its present high rating and to develop the splendid campus that the institution boasts.

Besides the widow, a sister, Miss Mabel Weed of Palo Alto is the only relative of the deceased.

Weed was widely know as a poet and playwright having written and produced during the years many outdoor spectacles. For years he was principal of the Sonoma high school and while living in Sonoma county married Eva Gundlach, member of the family which was senior member of the Gundlach & Bundschu wine-making firm. He later went to San Francisco and for some years was principal of the Girls High school there. He also worked several years as secretary to August Schilling at A. Schilling & Company.

There will be a memorial service at 4 o'clock. Interment will be private and efforts were being made today to contact Dr. Lynn T. White of the theological seminary faculty to conduct the memorial service.

He was a thorough master of English, a deep student and withal one of the most popular and universally beloved members of the college faculty.
