-Graduated from the University of Louisville School of Law and practiced law in Brandenburg until 1887 when he came to Louisville to become a partner in the law firm of Fairleigh and Straus.
-Prominent leader in the Republican party.
-Served as city attorney by appt. under Mayor Huston Quin
-Often referred to as "Judge Fairleigh" -- need to find out about this
-Lecturer in the Law Dept. of U of L and served on the board of trustees for 12 years
-In 1911 he became the 6th president of the University of Louisville. He resigned in 1914 to be suceeded by the first salaried president in the history of the University.
