LONG-TIME RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES

Mrs. Mae Burgess, 59, Ottumwa route 2, died at the Ottumwa hospital Wednesday at 9:25 p.m. She had been a resident of Wapello county for the last 41 years.

She was the daughter of Frank and Jennie Carl and was born in Audubon county, Iowa, October 24, 1879. She was married to William Burgess of Eddyville November 24, 1897.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ross Harrison of Ottumwa route 2; a sister, Mrs. Harry Shaw of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Charles Carl of Rose Hill and Emery Carl of Ottumwa; and three grandchildren, Aletha Mae, Wayne Ross and Robert Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother and a granddaughter.

Short services will be held in Johnson’s funeral chapel Friday at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m. in the Chillicothe Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the Rev. Albert Peterson and the Rev. Lawrence Hight. Burial will be in the Chillicothe cemetery.
