Fred was the son of Augustus Chase Savage and Emily Manchester Savage. He was an Architect and is thought to have been the most influential architect in design and development of many of the summer cottages on Mount Desert Island. He is credited for designing over 300 summer cottages and buildings on Mount Desert Island and Northeastern Maine.
