Elmer "Tookie" King, a well-known Meade County rancher, died at a Sturgis nursing home on March 26, 1975. He was born to Jess and Betsy King at their White Owl Ranch on October 21, 1904. He married Marguerite Burney at Rapid City on October 5, 1926. From the time of his marriage, he spent the rest of his life ranching near Plainview. He was stricken with a tumor of the brain, and the last 7 months of his life were spent in Rapid City-Sturgis Hospice. Survivors include his wife Marguerite Burney King of Sturgis; two sons, Donn-Faith & De-Enning; 6 grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Gilger-Belle Fourche; a brother, Louie King of Sturgis; a half-brother, Walter Ross-OR and several nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Franklin. A service for friends in Sturgis was held at Kinkade's. Services were held at Plainview Hall with Rev. Charles White officiating. Burial was at White Owl Cemetery under the direction of Kinkade Funeral Home.
